Does anyone watch this. I really like it, although my eyes are always filled with tears as I watch. I would love to be able to do that for a family.

I used to watch it, but lately I've just been kinda bored of watching tv, except of course American Idol, House, and Bones. There seem to be a lot of repeats lately. But you're right, that show does make me tear up too!

I like it but I can't stand it when they do the kids rooms!! I mean come on the Spider Man room will be cool until next year!! Someone is going to have to take all of that apart when he hits a growth spurt!! Same thing with the little girls room! The other brother had a book room which wasn't bad but he'll need a new bed too when he gets bigger. I mean this family could barely afford to take care of their old house how are they going to manage all the utilities and bills of this new bigger one!

Sry had to vent. Sometimes I wonder if the people getting the makeover realize how many new problems they might have :-P

Good point, Melissa. I also heard that the people who win the DIY houses can't afford the taxes.
My office volunteers to do a similar thing for local houses. It's called Goodworks and we go help build or remodel homes. It's no where near as extravagant as the show. More practical and economical renovations.

Melissa, alot of times the company building the home eats the cost. Most of the time they tell the home owner that they no longer have a mortage, that the house is outright theirs. Now that doesn't do anything to the cost of running the house ~ electric, gas, water. But it's gotta help.

well the mortage is paid but the property value is increased so they have higher home taxes. Usually the electric work and things they put in are the energy saver stuff so it keeps the energy costs down though.

I just think that it's a such great thing to do for those families that really have nothing. Some of them were living in such unhealthy conditions. It makes me feel so happy to have what I have.
