My DH just bought me a new sewing machine mostly to use in my scrapping and card making. I can't wait to try it, but I need to know if you have any tips for me so I don't tear up my new machine! I've heard to loosen the tension and make longer stitches. Any tips you can give me would be really appreciated.

Thanks Rosiegirl for all the helpful tips. I'm not a seamstress and only took a couple of years of home ec in high school (many years ago!), so I'm having to learn all over again. I tried out some design stitches tonight and did pretty well. It's just going to take practice, but I can't wait to try some on a card or LO. I'm about to start a book for my step-son so I'm looking forward to trying some new stuff.
    Thanks again!

Thx for all the great info. I haven't sewn in years but I'd like to give it a try this summer. One thing I remember from a class I took was to not buy cheap thread. It's worth the $ to buy better thread.
