I plan to make more of these for the holidays, filled with cookies as gifts to my neighbors. Comments welcome.

SO nice! It's beautiful. How do you go around the spot where the handle goes into the can?

Thank you both for the nice comments.

Janice, the empty paint cans can be purchased at stores like Home Depot or Lowes. I get mine at Lowes. Also, some paint stores sell them.

Mommaidwf, I have a template, I am sure you can fine one on the net. If not, email me and I will send you one.

Lol I'd seen paint cans done as the SB for a remodeled house. Never thought if you just bought an empty one you could use it for food and stuff :-P that would be a cool gift box for cookies.

How do you make the lid easier to come off or do you not worry about having a lid?

Depends on what I put in the paint can. Mostly I just put colored tissue paper coming out the top, like you would a gift bag. I always decorate the top with a circle of the same paper, just in case I choose to put the top on. Top is handy if you want to use the can for storage later.
