REMEMBER…the resilient spirit of a nation that rallied after a devastating attack and came back stronger than ever to win a victory for freedom and peace…

UNDERSTAND…Pearl Harbor changed America and the world forever, a legacy to freedom and democracy.

More than just a significant military battle in world history, the events at Pear Harbor awakened the local military and civilian residents to the character of war. At the moment bombs began to fall, these men and women were instantly engaged into the depths of the human condition.

    Personnel:....................Killed......Wounded
    Navy.............................1999........710
    Marine Corps..................109.........69
    Army and Army Air Corps...233........364
    Civilian.........................49.........35

    US Ships
    Sunk or Beached............12
    Damaged.....................9
    US Aircraft
    Destroyed.................164
    Damaged...................159

The larger chart on the bottom lists the name of the ship, what type of ship, its location during the attack, number of crew members and attack details.

Specifically the Arizona was a Battleship, located on Battleship Row, tied to the Vestal a Repair Ship forward of the Nevada a Battleship. There were 1,500 crew members of which 1,177 made the ultimate sacrifice. There was 1 torpedo hit; 8 bomb hits; half sinking it.

Aerial shot of the Memorial is a postcard.

HONOR…1,177 brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice at Pearl Harbor, and now represent all who have fallen on behalf of our enduring freedom and liberty.

These are photos I took while we were on the Memorial.

I have handwritten some journaling over the two bottom photos, left photo: Barbette to gun turret number three - USS Arizona; right photo: The USS Arizona continues to leak about a quart of oil per day into the Harbor

Bonnie, You have done a remarkable job of capturing the spirit of the monument. I don't think you could have told the story as well with less pages. Beautiful LOs. I love them all. I'm glad you used a postcard on a LO. I was wondering about that.
