I have been giving this some thought. Instead of trying to jam all my family's information on a double layout, I am thinking of making family history albums. One album would be for Steve's family and another for mine. The pages would start with a page about me, then a page for my Dad and a page for my mom. The next page would be for Dad's dad and mom and so on and so on... Each page would have a photo with a brief history and explanation of how they 'fit' into the family. Some of the info would be on removable tags or small cards that would fit behind photos.

This way, a person could open the album and go page to page, seeing, in order, how the family line goes. On the last two pages, I could then have a typical family trees to conclude the album with. What do you think?

By doing individual full pages LO's or 1/2 page layouts, I could embellish them with lobjects, colors, and information that are appropriate for the time periods of the family members. This would show the grandkids and future family members how each relative lived and what their world was like.

AND since I have three children, I would make an original album for myself and Steve and then scan the pages for additional albums for the kids. Would that be tacky? Having to duplicate the album three times would take forever!

What do you think? I am certainly open to suggestions.

On top of this, I have tons of photos of both parents while they were in the Military during WW2. This will be a whole NEW challenge when I get to it.

I think that sounds like a plan. What size album are you doing? It may be difficult/more expensive to scan and copy 12X12 but you'd just have to check with your photo places on that.

You'll have to tell me what you do with the WW2 pics. I have those in my family too if I ever want to do them.

Judy- I love your idea about separate pages and different times. You will have to be sure to post them as you complete them.

I don't think it would be tacky at all to have copies made for your children. StampQueen does it all the time- has copies made for her family members. She just uploads her pages and has them professionally printed into books. They look really great too.

My 'other' hobby is family history and it dove-tails very well with scrapbooking. So I'm thinking along similar lines, but since I haven't many photos of the early ancestors, it well be a lot more 'text-based'. The main difference from yours is that I plan to put my family tree chart at the front, kind of like a 'table of contents' to introduce the characters of the story.

I won't do mine for awhile yet, so will be interested to see what I can 'scrap-lift' from you.

Before I can start the family albums I need to complete my scraproom! It is still half of a mess...I lost energy and inspiration. Then I have to finish uploading family photos that I offered to do for everyone after Dad died. So, while organizing all the photos, I have been brainstorming, thus the idea of the family album instead of a 'tree'. Perhaps, I can make a couple of pages and see if the idea will work. When I get those finished I will post them for you all.

The military albums are a bit easier because Mom and Dad already had them in albums. But, there is little journaling and so I am going to have to tell their story through embellishments, quotes, pieces of printed history and such.

And, Zig' I just assumed I would make 12X12 pages. I didn't think about the difficulty of copying them. But, maybe I can have them taken to a printer's and have them downsize them a bit to fit a smaller album. The book idea is wonderful!

Hmmm, I just realized, that if I have them scanned, all the hidden tags and note cards will be left out. Well! Now that presents a whole new problem! Back to my think tank!

Love the idea Judy - I would probably make one book for each, scan each layout and download onto CD's to pass out to family members, would be a lot cheaper.

Rosiegirl, thanks for all the information! You almost had me convinced to go that route until Bonnie shared a suggestion. I think between the two of you , you have the best ideas. I will continue to plan a hands-on scrapbook layout for the photos but then scan them and put them on a CD! How cool would THAT be!? Thanks, you guys!!

I like your ideas. I have been planning a heritage album somewhat along those lines. Judy, Your idea is so good, I'll probably scraplift.
I haven't started mine since I could not really decide how to do it. I have three to complete before I start on it.

While on our getaway weekend, I was able to catch up on perusing the stack of SB mags I have been collecting and I stumbled across mention of this website:

    www.webbiographies.com

I haven't checked it out, but thought I would post the info.
