    Hi everybody,
Does anybody have instructions on how to cover a scrapbook? It's the kind that has the screws in the cover that can be taken apart. I have some material that I want to cover it with, but I'm not exactly sure how to do it. If somebody can post some instructions or guidelines I'd appreciate it. If you have other questions just ask. Thanks!
    Johnnie

Have you looked up instructions on how to cover a text book for school? I would think that if you followed along you might be able to figure it out. Can you post a picture of the scrapbook you want covered, it might be easier if we can actually see what it looks like.

I haven't looked that up, but I'll try it. Thanks.

I don't have a way to post a picture of it though.

What I want to do is take the covers off and cover the front and back separately with material I have, then put it back together. Any suggestions now that y'all can see a picture of it? Thanks!

I don't know if I would go to the trouble of removing the existing cover, can you just go over the existing cover?

I would start with the outside and wrap it around. On the inside I would cut a piece of fabric (or paper) just like you see the white on the inside cover and either finish the edge or turn it under and then apply adhesive to hold it all together. Strong adhesive should do the trick.

I can't tell by the pictures if there is a spine cover (so album can expand) - if so that sometimes is a seperate piece and can be removed and covered by itself.

Maybe cut the fabric the size of the outside and inside plus a small seam allowence and then sew three sides to make like a pillow case, the use a permancent adhesive to attach it to the cover leaving the part that folds over for the posts uncovered. Hope that makes sense.

Johnnie, I cover them all the time. Right now I have several I'm covering for other people. Here's how to do it:

    1. Take album apart
    2. Lay album on fabric and cut fabric so that there is about an inch extra on all four sides.
    3. Iron medium weight interfacing onto piece of fabric,
    4. Using a hot glue gun attach the fabric to the outside of the cover and fold over the sides making mitered corners.
    5. Cut a piece of fabric the size of the cover plus 1/4 inch on each side.
    6. Cut interfacing the size of the fabric, less the 1/4 inch.
    7. Iron interfacing in center of piece of fabric.
    8. Fold 1/4 inch in and iron flat, mitering corners.
    9. Glue to inside cover to make a finished cover.
    10. Using scisors, punch hole through the holes for the post.

Be sure you iron interfacing on wrong side of fabric. You need it to keep any color bleed through from the album. Do both covers of the album. Be sure that the pattern in the fabric runs the same way for both covers. You will need about 1 1/2 yards of fabric.

If this is not clear, PM me and I will answer any questions and good luck.
    Judith
