What brand is your favorite embossing powder? I haven't been into this long and the powders I bought well don't really like the way work. Which is best for different projects?

I use both Ranger brand and Stamp N Stuff and am happy with both. Lisa

Are you using VersaMark to stamp your images before you emboss? I had trouble with embossing powders too until someone recommended getting a VersaMark watermark pad. Now my embossing powders work the way they are supposed to. Also, use a piece of cardboard wrapped with aluminum foil underneath. I let my heat gun run for about 10 seconds before I start to melt the embossing powder so the heat gun is at maximum temperature.

My embossing powders are Stampendous and Stampabilities. That's what we have at HL and Mike's.

Make sure your using embossing ink. It can be versamark, but there are others as well. Make sure they say they are slow drying. Dye inks are not good for embossing. Pigment inks work pretty well. You also may need to use two coats of powder. I've found that the very fine powders need at least two to look covered.

I've only used the ones from Mike's (don't know the brand) and Stampin' Up and the SU outshine the others any time. Much better quality.

Wow! You ladies are a wealth of info. I have been using the embossing pad and the dye pad. Never thought about putting the foil beneath my paper.
Also, mommaidwf, how do you do the second coat of powder?

The dye pad isn't going to work because the ink dries too quickly. The second coat was explained by someone here, but it really just takes some practice, lol. You have to pour your second coat of powder on while your image is still hot from heating the first coat.

I use Tampin' Up, and they seem to be the best I have tried. Even melting and good "stick-to-it-iveness"
