Ok, I guess in reality they weren't really free. We went to the dr today & they took my stitches out. When the tech opened up this pkg with sterile scissors & tweezers to remove stitchess, I asked him what he did with those when he was finished. He said he would throw them away. Well, you know my brain was working overtime. I asked it I could have them. When he finished with the stitches, he put them back in the pkg, taped it up & handed them to me. So now I have a new pair of scissors & tweezers to use when I want to. They are actually small so they fit in my purse easily.

How funny is that. When I have been to the military hospital they throw stuff away too. Guess it is cheaper to open a new one then to sterilize it and repackage it.

Oh,Believe me Judy- you'll pay for those scissors! The cost was included in the price of treatment.

Last time DH was in the hospital I took home all the toiletries when he was discharged- they have to throw them away, and they are included in the bill. TOld DH think of that as $10,000 lotion & powder!

Another thing to keep in mind if you use disposable cameras-when you turn it in for devloping ask them to save the AA batteries for you. You paid for them, and they are barely used. Many places have a drawer full of them and will give you a hand full for just asking. I used to do that all the time for the kids cd players, cameras and such!

lol speaking of the disposable cameras in hubby's maxim mag they had a way to turn that thing into a shocking devise crazy people with too much time on their hands

My MIL works at a hospital and would have a whole bunch of batteries and cloths and stuff. They can't risk even if they didn't use the battery that long, they can't risk it going out. Hmm never asked about scissors and tweezers but she works in billing or something now so I don't know how often she gets those.

speaking of batteries I need to make sure the cameras are charaged

you ladies are too funny, but I have the water jugs with straw, small plastic wash tubs(great for messy crafts), and of course the toilitries. If we're paying, I take! Sometimes part pkgs of bandages, too.

Oh, yes, dh was in the hospital last yr after a heart attack. We brought home all sorts of things, bandages, soap, lotion, everything that was in his room. And that cost almost $200,000. Hooray for insurance!

I did that kind of stuff loooooonnnng time ago when I had a scout troop. Back then the hospitals used plastic bottle type container for IV's. They made great water bottles for hiking. Hadn't thought about that in years. Thanks for the memories.

Just a note on why the instruments were not resterilized and resued: they were probably sold as disposable (meaning they are not made to stay sharp enough for human use for more than one use) and it is illegal to resterilize and reuse them in this country.
