We have collected and sent into the hands of our service men a staggering 468 cards. I have in place a system for getting the cards to the troops now and so I am asking that anyone interested in sending me any all occasion cards for the troops to send home send me a pm and we will keep this going.

They deserve our support.

A special THANK YOU to all the ladies in the original swap. You ROCK!!!!!

Hugs to all of you!

Gail,

I have not taken part in the previous troop card project, however, I was just thinking, last night, that I have so many handmade cards and I seldom use them. But, I love making them. Being able to send them to the troops for their use, I would love to give them to 'em.

I do have one concern. Do they pay a special 'ligher rate' for postage since they are in the service, as a courtesy to them? I am concerned that they will not know or be able to afford to send our handmade cards with all their embellishments on them which requires additional postage. How does this get addressed or does it?

I believe that they send them here and then the are posted in the US. Not sure. That is a very good question. Sounds like another research project. Most personnel can afford postage though.

Military overseas have an APO address that they use. It's like postage in the US. I don't know exactly how it works but it's no more expensive for them to send things than if they were stationed here in the states.
My sil is an Army chaplain & I have sent cards to him to pass out. If anyone wants to send to a different area, I'll be happy to take cards & send to him. Just PM me. The important thing is that they get there so if you've been sending them to Gail, keep on doing that.

Wow, 379 that's great. I would love to contribute to that. By all occassion do you want them blank inside with just a no theme decoration and no words on the front? Or do you think that they would want a mixture of different kinds of cards like Birthday, Christmas, Valentines Day, etc.

The group that we have just sent were a mixture. Some had simple verses and some were decorated with a theme on the outside and blank on the inside so that they could write their own message.

On the ones I have made for troops to send back home that I have finished the inside, I include a sheet of paper for them to write their letters on. (Hope tht makes sense) I fold the paper and insert it in the envie.

I'm so glad the we came up with that number. I plan to have two different groups working during the year so we can send in twice that many next year. Even if our guys are out of Iraq next year, we will still have servicemen who will not be at home during the holidays. This is such a good support for them.
