At what point has altering objects gone too far?

For example, people alter lunch boxes and use them for purses or storage OK. In an issue of SB Answers they did an article about altered objects and the 1st pic was a mailbox. I showed it to my hubby and said "I promise I will never do this to you."

with knitting I think a line has been crossed when you start knitting ipod covers and tissue box covers.

LOL Ziggy- with crocheting I agree and would add sandals & air freshener covers!

a mailbox is definitely over the top, but I can't think of anything else i've seen that was over the line- but i'm sure i'll see something at some point!

I agree with the mailbox. WAY to far. Christi, have you actually ever seen crocheted sandals??? How to you walk in those things? It'd be just like going barefoot!

mommaidwf - I think the crochet sandals they are talking about are real, cheap flip flops (what we call them) and you crochet around the top part with fiber, etc. They are really comfortable to wear. That is all my granddaughter wanted wear last year.

No Lynn, these were honest to goodness totally crocheted sandals! I saw them over on the HGTV board last year. SOme of he gals were experimenting with different fibers and plastic bags torn into strips http://forum.startascrapbook.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I can't imagine they are comfortable CIndy,& i didn't think they were very attractive. http://forum.startascrapbook.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

LOL well the flipflops where you decorate the band are ok. an air freshner cover though?! Oh and even though they showed nice knitted swimwear on Knitty Gritty I don't think I'd do that either.

I had thought of something else then I forgot it :-P Oh well maybe I'll think of it later.

I agree with the swimsuit thing and I saw that - would be bad if a stitch pulled out while wearing it - lol

are those crocheted flip flops like the chinese slipper things that have been popular the past couple of years?

Holy Moly! A SWIMSUIT!!! Ziggy I think that one wins because Lynn is right. One little snag, and there goes the suit!!!

I agree with the swimsuit. Because you know it would be someone who should not be wearing anything skimpy in the first place.

How about knitting a mailbox cover? http://forum.startascrapbook.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Or, you could use ribbon and weave a bikini?

Laura - you wouldn't have to worry about your mailbox getting cold. lol
